Vehicle loads and drainage make the base specification important.
Measure the project
Measure length and width plus turnouts; document layer depths separately.
Estimate the main materialMaterial checklist
- Specified subbase
- Surface aggregate
- Edge treatment
- Drainage components if required
Check quantities, specifications, and delivery with your supplier. This list is a planning prompt, not a construction design.
Quantities to price
- Subbase: area × specified compacted depth, then convert to loose order volume.
- Surface course: keep its depth and aggregate grade separate.
- Truckload: compare weight and delivery limits with the supplier quote.
Where the plan can change: A driveway must carry vehicles and drain safely; a path detail is not a sufficient specification.
Work sequence
- Assess subgrade
- Plan drainage
- Place and compact layers
- Check finished grade
