The seed label tells you what you are buying and which application rate to enter.
- Species and cultivar: check suitability for your region, sun, and use.
- Germination: the tested share that sprouted under lab conditions.
- Pure seed and inert matter: how much of the bag is seed versus coating or other material.
- Weed and other crop seed: inspect before buying.
- Seeding rate: select the stated new-lawn or overseeding rate, usually per 1,000 sq ft.
Use the current bag label and local extension guidance rather than a single national seed rate.
