Material checklist

  • Frame materials
  • Soil blend
  • Compost if indicated
  • Hardware and optional protection

Check quantities, specifications, and delivery with your supplier. This list is a planning prompt, not a construction design.

Quantities to price

  • Soil fill: inside length × inside width × actual fill depth; repeat for each bed.
  • Frame: price boards from the outside perimeter and chosen wall height.
  • Bags: divide fill cubic feet by the actual bag volume and round up.
Where the plan can change: If the bed is open to the ground, roots may extend below the frame. A bed on pavement needs its own drainage and depth plan.

Work sequence

  1. Build and level the frame
  2. Check drainage
  3. Fill with measured material
  4. Water in and recheck settled depth
